Is it a good idea to install eavestroughs in the winter?
If you live on the eastern end of Lake Ontario, such as Belleville or Quinte West, you are well aware of how long our cold seasons last. The cold season typically lasts for 3.3 months, from December 3 to March 14, but can oftentimes go longer. When it comes to completing some home improvement projects, you may be wondering if you can install new eavestroughs in the winter or if you should wait until spring.
Whether you choose to have new gutters installed in the winter, or if you use the winter months to gather as much information as possible about the process, we’ve put together a few things to think about.
When is the Best Time to Install Gutters?
While gutters can be installed in the winter, it may be beneficial to wait until spring. Because it’s the slow season, some companies may offer you an “early bird” discount for winter eavestrough installation jobs, but you’ll be risking potential damage to your new gutter system.
Belleville and Quinte West winter nights are bitterly cold, windy, and icy. The winter is hard on gutter systems, especially when snow and ice are involved. It’s better to be safe than sorry, which is why we recommend conducting your research during the winter months and installing it in the spring.
By the time you’re ready to instal a new gutter system, you should be familiar with the process and have a good idea of what type of gutters you want on your home. Because of the weather, spring is the best time of year to install new eavestroughs. Since the snow has melted and your gutters are usually free of debris such as leaves, you can get an accurate assessment of which parts of your gutter system should be replaced and which parts can be repaired.
